Whew! It’s been a very busy day preparing for the arrival of another group of guests at the lodge tomorrow. My immediate thankfulness is that my husband is grilling burgers for our dinner. I don’t have to cook—a really nice thing since I’ll be cooking like crazy for the next week and a half.

Additionally, I’m thankful that I managed to teach myself to knit. Nothing fancy yet, but I’ve got a pretty hefty stack of dishcloths that make me smile and it’s been fun to share them with others. I’ve enjoyed being able to knit a few rows when I’m too tired to do anything else. And perhaps one day I’ll even get good enough to make something larger than a dishcloth!

It’s been a blessing to participate in these November Thanksgivings. Thank you, Rebecca, for being the founder of the blessing feast at your blog!

Can’t miss the opportunity of these Thanksgiving posts to say that I’m thankful for our children. Our sons are men who bring delight to my heart because they love the Lord. Harry and I often say–but probably don’t tell them enough–how valuable their help is to us personally and also to our counseling ministry. We don’t know what we’d do without them, and we thank God for them. Not only for their help, but their willingness and kindness that has been used by God in the lives of the folks who come to our lodge. God works through our suffering, no doubt about it.

When asked “So how many children do you have?” I always have a slight internal pause, but usually don’t mention our daughter whose life was so brief. It involves too much for casual conversation. I must mention her here, though, because I am thankful for her and the tremendous impact of her life and death on my husband and me. Blessed be the Lord for his severe mercies.

More expressions of thankfulness are posted at Rebecca’s. It’s not to late to join in!

Come, Thou precious Ransom, come,
Only Hope for sinful mortals!
Come, O Savior of the world!
Open are to Thee all portals.
Come, Thy beauty let us see;
Anxiously we wait for Thee.

Enter now my waiting heart,
Glorious King and Lord most holy.
Dwell in me and ne’er depart,
Though I am but poor and lowly.
Ah, what riches will be mine
When Thou art my Guest Divine!

My hosannas and my palms
Graciously receive, I pray Thee;
Evermore, as best I can,
Savior, I will homage pay Thee,
And in faith I will embrace,
Lord, Thy merit through Thy grace.

Hail, hosanna, David’s Son!
Help, Lord, hear our supplication!
Let Thy kingdom, scepter, crown,
Bring us blessing and salvation,
That forever we may sing:
Hail, hosanna! to our King.

Johannes G. Olearius, 1664

Today I’m thankful for the rugged beauty of the land around my home. Ponderosa pine trees, rock outcroppings and an amazing view of Pike’s Peak (the inspiration for America the Beautiful) are before my eyes every day. I even like the families of deer that wander through, sometimes eating my shrubs and flowers. For ten years we’ve lived in this beautiful place, and I’m thankful.

If you’d like to read a whole month’s worth of thanks givings, Rebecca has compiled a list of links every day. We have two days left, so join in!

All day yesterday and again today, I’m thankful for peace. Christmas is coming, and with the anticipation comes a deep sense of peace. The Prince of Peace has come to earth, to you, to me!  Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.

And then there’s Dorothy’s news. More hallelujahs!

There’s even more to be thankful for, all ready for you to read at Rebecca’s!

Oh, give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples!
Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell of all his wondrous works!
Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
Seek the Lord and his strength:
seek his presence continually!
Remember the wondrous works that he has done,
his miracles, and the judgments he uttered,
O offspring of Abraham, his servant,
children of Jacob, his chosen ones!

Psalm 105:1-6

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I’ve been blessed by our collective thanksgivings to God for his abundant blessings to us. Thank you, Rebecca, for inviting us to join you in giving thanks and for compiling the links every day; that’s a tedious job!

I’ve started playing our Christmas music already and have decided that most of it isn’t worth listening to another year. Poor orchestration, poor choral quality. I need to buy some new Christmas music!

So what are your favorite Christmas CDs, especially sacred music? Thanks for your help!

I’m thankful for the all-encompassing provision of God and that his timing is always perfect.

Jehovah-Jirah. The Lord Will Provide

The saints should never be dismay’d,
Nor sink in hopeless fear;
For when they least expect His aid,
The Saviour will appear.
This Abraham found: he raised the knife;
God saw, and said, “Forbear!
Yon ram shall yield his meaner life;
Behold the victim there.”
Once David seem’d Saul’s certain prey;
But hark! the foe’s at hand;
Saul turns his arms another way,
To save the invaded land.
When Jonah sunk beneath the wave,
He thought to rise no more;
But God prepared a fish to save,
And bear him to the shore.
Blest proofs of power and grace divine,
That meet us in His word!
May every deep-felt care of mine
Be trusted with the Lord.
Wait for His seasonable aid,
And though it tarry, wait:
The promise may be long delay’d,
But cannot come too late.

William Cowper

Some of the riches of God’s provision are being recorded at Rebecca Writes. Go see what the Lord has done and add your voice to praise him!

Simply put, I’m thankful for Jesus.

I’m thankful for laughter. Quiet, gentle laughter. Chuckling laughter. Joyful, incredulous laughter. Relieved (whew!) laughter. Shared laughter. Tears-streaming-down the cheeks laughter. Raucous, knee-slapping, doubled-over laughter.

Get those endorphins going today!

Now go on over to Rebecca’s for more thankfulness.
